We spent time talking to early members of LocalSingl.es across Marion County: people who joined the waitlist in the first weeks, who were living the Ocala single life before the platform existed. What they told us shaped everything about how we built this product.

The most common theme that came up, again and again, was a feeling we came to call the "small city paradox."
Ocala is big enough that you can go weeks without running into the same person twice. But it's small enough that when you *do* run into someone, you have six mutual friends and a complicated history before you've even said hello. Dating in that environment carries a weight that people in major cities don't always understand.
"I matched with someone on a national app and we had three mutual friends," one founding member told us. "It made everything so awkward before it even started. I didn't know if they'd talked to my ex. I didn't know if my coworker had already dated them."

In Ocala, that often means someone who has genuine roots here — or is building them. Someone who cares about the community. Someone you can actually run into at the Farmers Market and have it feel easy rather than awkward.
The transient nature of some Florida cities (lots of people passing through, seasonal residents, snowbirds) makes this harder than it sounds. Trust came up constantly in our conversations, and it ran in both directions.
